please join us for the launch of the third common books publication.

the publication is an open reflection on the the public school for architecture brussels, a framework that supports autodidactic activities. conceived following the first eight weeks of the program, which took place at recyclart - brussels congres train station in the spring of 2014, the book explores what an alternative education in architecture is and why it is necessary. documents of the activities that took place during this initial period and a number of additional contributions from people outside of the school provide a broad perspective on pedagogy and contextualize the public school in a larger discussion about architecture in the city.

common books is the collaborative editorial project of common room involving architects, artists, curators, writers and other cultural producers who share an interest in thinking critically about the built environment.

anne callahan is an artist and designer. she has worked with books and other publication types as designer, production assistant, copy-editor, library clerk, archivist, artist and graduate student. anne was a public school new york committee member in 2010.

stephen squibb works as a writer and/or an editor and has appeared in or online at artforum, e-flux journal, modern painters, monthly review, jacobin, n+1, t magazine and art agenda, where he is a contributing editor. stephen was a public school new york committee member in 2010.

sean dockray is an artist, a founding director of the los angeles non-profit telic arts exchange, and initiator of autonomous knowledge-sharing platforms the public school and aaaarg. org. as a recent research fellow of the post-media lab at leuphana university, he explored the physical infrastructure of the sharing economy.

the public school committee is a group of volunteers thats meets periodically to review proposals and develop classes and is responsible for shaping the ideological goals of the program.
