common room, with Guido Hartray and the New Practices New York Committee, is setting up a field station in a parking space at the CFA to study the private use of public places and the public use of private spaces, focusing on three parks in the immediate vicinity of the Center for Architecture. The public is invited to stop for a cup of coffee, discuss the topic and go into the field to explore the public/private interfaces of the surrounding parks. All findings will be documented in a field journal.
The field office is an extension of the the common room installation in New Practices New York/2008 exhibition at the CFA, which for the month of September addresses the theme Local context ‘Center for Architecture’.

Park(ing) Day is an opportunity to celebrate parks in cities and promote the need for more parks by creating temporary public parks in public parking spaces. The Center for Architecture Park is made possible with kind support from Transportation Alternatives.
